SAVANNAHS

kittens available now!

Probably you already read about the Savannah cats or maybe you are new to this breed. The Savannah is the result of breeding with the African Serval to a domestic cat. Savannahs are the largest hybrid cats, with F generations. This means:

F1 First generation, has an African Serval parent

F2 Second generation, has an Serval grandparent

F3 Third generation, has an Serval great- grandparent

and so on with the lower generations.

The F1 Savannah can weigh more then 20 pounds and stand up to 15 inches at the shoulder. Later generations are also showing good sizes but will get smaller how further away from the Serval.

The goal from breeders is to breed SBT Savannahs (Stud Book Traditional). SBT = the cat has no cats which are unknown, unregistered, or another breed or breed group within a standard three generation pedigree.

Tica accepts 4 colors; black, brown spotted tabby, silver spotted tabby and black smoke. The coloring ranges from a warm golden background to a cool brown/gray or tan colored background with really black to dark brown spots. The eye color should be a rich yellow, green, golden or caramel brown. Sometimes the Savannah will produce a marble (classic pattern) or other colors. Look at the Tica breed standards or look at the Tica registration codes . This will explain more about the Tica codes ( AON, BOP, COP etc.) in the pedigree.

The Savannah is a spotted, tall, long and slender cat with a long neck, long legs and big ears. It will be two years before they get their full height and length and they put on muscle for another year. Approximately within 3 years they are done growing.

The Savannah character is very affectionate and outgoing. They are assertive, very intelligent and like to investigate a lot of areas and then get into trouble easily because of their curiosity. With their long legs they are very fast and love to run as fast as they can in the house. Savannahs socialize with other people, other animals and will follow you everywere you go. They are very energetic and can play for hours. They love to fetch and will make that clear to you by teaching you the game. Savannahs are very athletic and like to sit up high and dive sometimes into toilet bowls when the lid is not down. Many Savannahs are not afraid of water and love to put their toys or paws in their waterbowls or try to take showers with you. They jump on high cabinets, cupboards, doors etc. If you are sure that the Savannah is the right companion for you, consider that you have to put away precious things where Savannahs can reach them like things what can break easy, expensive collectables, glass etc. They love to open every cabinet door if possible and climb into washers, dryers and refrigerates, bags etc. Don't be surprised when you are missing pens, socks or other items, the Savannah will have them for sure or hide it somewere and then look very innocent at you. The Savannah loves to sit on your lap and cuddle but is definitely not a couch potato !

They also love to sit with you when you are at the computer and help you in anyway they can. Savannahs have a lot of humor and when you appreciate it you will laugh a lot. They really want to be with people and are pretty persistent to get their ways and to get your attention. They can be leash trained in a special harnas for outdoor walks. Savannahs are very expressive cats and you must open yourself to being trained as well as doing the training.

It is not reccomended to have a Savannah roam free outside. They are too expensive for that or can be confused for a wild animal outside. These are indoor cats. An outdoor kennel will give them the freedom to go out in a secure area.

You will have as much fun discovering the Savannah as they will discovering you !!!!
